NESsT is seeking an Operations Manager (OM) in its Budapest, Hungary office. The OM will be primarily responsible for ensuring that NESsT global operations in CEE are efficient, professional, high quality and designed to maximize NESsT performance and mission impact. The OM oversees and continuously works to develop and improve NESsT operations and systems in CEE in: financial management, human resources and office management, legal/regulatory issues, and technology. This full‐time position is based in the Budapest, Hungary office and reports directly to the Director of Operations (DO) in Santiago, Chile. The OM will directly supervise the Administrative Associate in Budapest, Hungary.
Responsibilities include:
1. Financial Management
- Work with the DO and Finance Manager in the budget development process for CEE and monitor budget compliance on an ongoing basis.
- Support DO in overseeing organizational cash flow, payroll and monthly financial accounting process across all NESsT CEE offices.
- Oversee the annual independent financial audit processes in Hungary and Romania and oversees accountant activities in CEE in general.
- Review quarterly financial and operational reports for CEO approval and distribution to Finance Committee of NESsT Board of Directors.
- Oversee development of CEE project budgets for proposals and complete financial reporting to donors and client billing.
2. Human Resources
- Support DO in implementing HR strategy in CEE.
- Manage recruiting, career development and day‐to‐day human resources issues in CEE (including NESsTER –intern‐ program).
- Develop and implement human resource policies and procedures in CEE based on Employee handbook.
- Provide on‐going research training on technologies and systems to staff in CEE.
3. Legal/Regulatory
- Research and oversee legal and regulatory issues related to the establishment and maintenance of all legal entities of NESsT in CEE.
- Manage relationship with outside legal counsel in CEE.
- Review all CEE contracts to minimize risk exposure and maintain central legal files.
4. Planning/Strategy
- Contribute to developing and reviewing/updating annual NESsT work plan.
- Other operational tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in managing and overseeing development of operations, HR issues and complex systems.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proven supervisory/management skills.
- Fluency in English and Hungarian. An additional language from one of the countries where NESsT works in Central Europe (Romanian, Czech, Slovak, Croatian) is a plus.
- Candidates must have experience working in emerging market countries.
- University, or college degree and minimum 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of EU legal framework, nonprofit accounting procedures and experience in budget management and reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Office, virtual technologies for information sharing, required.
- Knowledge of international non‐profit environment and commitment to NESsT’s social mission.
- Ability to be flexible, resourceful and innovative in a dynamic nonprofit environment.
- Experience working in a multicultural, diverse, and very virtual environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Willingness and predisposition to travel.
Compensation: Salary in local currency (HUF). Competitive nonprofit salary based on experience and salary history.
Duration: Minimum 1 year employee contract with the possibility of extension with an additional year.
